User (UXD-pertinent )Wholesomeness Model:

The "User Experience Wholesomeness Model (sm) © . An UXD-pertinent Modality as created: i.e., designed, and developed, by the [owner] of this page. After all, germane to UXD, is it not all about the crafting of user experiences around human beings. In essence, users are flesh-and-blood people each one comprised of seven (7) tangible aspects.

The point; in order to fully design a user experience that is efficacious -- a.k.a. "more than satisfactory", the UX Design Team ( e.g., comprised of skilled, able, competent, savvy, and credentialed User Experience (UXD) Practitioners)) must understand herein grasp the complexity of the organical human experience as applied unto each distinctive aspect.

Preliminary Information:

What are the "eight dimensions of wellness"? ...  ...  ...

Did you know, that the term wellness espouses the notion of being in good health (?) and what many psychologists, counselors, therapists, advisors, and holistic practitioners describe as wholesomeness? Perhaps, you are quite familiar with the notion? In short, to be whole is nothing more than being grounded and soundly rooted. Sounded and rooted one might ask?

Indeed, the most basic, however efficacious translation is to have a [strong] and unwavering [foundation] underpinned with the character pillars of self/other appreciation, self/other awareness, self/other esteem, as well as identity, and respect, to name just a few.

In Old English, the term "wellness" is rooted in "well·ness" (pronounced ˈwel-nəs). It is the quality or state of being in overall good health -- i.e., mentally, physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually -- particularly as a sought-after goal contextualization (1).

Cassell's New Compact (Latin) Dictionary states that the term "well" is in the adjective sense the root 'savus' or "to be"! In the adverb sense the root(s) are a. 'bene' or "very" as in an extraordinary amount, and b. 'optime' or "it is" (2).

The renowned Global Wellness Institute divulges that the entire notion of wellness has ancient roots.

Incidentally, as a modern concept, wellness/wholesomeness has gained currency momentum since the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, when the writings and leadership of an atypical and unconventional physicians and thinkers network -- i.e., in the United States -- largely molded the way wellness is today both conceptualized and herein explored.

The renowned Global Wellness Institute states that the entire notion of wellness has ancient roots. However, as a modern concept, wellness/wholesomeness has gained currency momentum during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s, when the writings and leadership of an atypical and unconventional physicians and thinkers network -- i.e., in the United States -- largely molded the way wellness is today both conceptualized and explored.

The root or origin(s) of wellness, however, are far older—even ancient. Aspects of the wellness concept are rooted in a double handful of intellectual, religious, and most notably medical movements which gained momentum with significance during the Pre-modern Era of the United States and the European nations (i.e., circa 1800 - 1899).

Historically, the rudimentary wellness tenets and philosophical pillars are to be traced as far back as the ancient civilizations of Asia, Greece, and Rome (3).

The National Wellness Institute (NWI) defines wellness as, "an active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward a more #successful existence." (3)

Did you catch that? An apparent albeit apparent or subtle link between wellness and success.

The question therefore might become, which one promulgated the other (e.g., 2-dimensional perspective)! Or perhaps better yet, the question is; are success and wellness in actuality both sides of the very same coin (e.g., 3-dimensional perspective)? In brief, it is my expert opinion that these two merely are interdependent as such coexist.

Now arriving full circle to the main theme of this posting, there do/does exist seven (+) dimensions/aspects of wholesome-ness. Do note, you will find a diagram that illustrates how all of these dimensions are seamed together at the central wellness notion.

The first dimension is called "Spiritual Wholesomeness." The second dimension is called "Emotional Wholesomeness." The third dimension is called "Intellectual Wholesomeness." The fourth dimension is called "Social Wholesomeness." The fifth dimension is called "Physical Wholesomeness." The sixth dimension is called "Vocational Wholesomeness." The seventh dimension is called "Economic Wholesomeness."

.

To the point, in order to design and develop such a world that is more altruistic and empathetic, it is imperative to shift our collective and individual way(s) of thinking with a greater emphasis/prioritization on the core needs of individuals all whom make-up the collective unit/body.

.

Notably, not as meager human beings but as potential positive contributors to a society that is to flourish -- i.e., healthy, vibrant, prosperous, and wholesome.

Timeless takeaway pointe: To radically shift the world's socio-paradigms (i.e., refer to the diagram), one simple, yet provocative human-centered design [[ notion, initiative, holistically PRAXIS ]] at-a-time."

.

Who knows, perhaps time and opportunity will tell via confirming that the collective whole -- i.e., communal body, of society is only as healthy as that of each individual -- i.e., wholesome, not-so-wholesome, and on the road to wholesomeness, all who makes up the vital community framework. Applicable to, of course, our local, regional, national, and global contextualization(s).

.

A wise person quipped that any entity is only as strong -- healthy, vital, prosperous, and wholesome, as its weakest link.

[End of Part 3.]

...

Thank you for your[ time ] and [[ attention ]]. Be well, and Be wholesome. Now, impact the world.

Takeaway Question:

How, you might ask?

Response:

Humankind at-the-center of all things!

A Final Point: just in case you might have not realized, but the "eighth aspect" encompasses all of the seven others! Yes, the eighth aspect entails the state of sustained wellness, wholesomeness.

Individual Aspects:

Aspect Number One (1): Spiritual Wholesomeness.

The foremost meaning for this aspect is to address and understand the encompassing ideology of the user(s) as he/she interprets thereafter interacts with one's encompassing environment and the persons function within it. It is the driving motivational impetus behind many of the decisions that the individual(s) follow through with consistent activity.

Ultimately, it is widely understood therein believed that every culture on this planet believes in a ethereal realm/plane. As such, this ethereal plane is governed or overseen by a singular God or many Gods. From my personal vantage pointe, it is to be understood that I believe in a one God with three personality expressions, fyi.

Elizabeth Scott, Ph.D. divulges that the ten signs of spiritual wholeness or atleast being on the right path towards it entails:

Some signs of spirituality can include:

  • Asking deep questions about topics such as suffering or what happens after death

  • Deepening connections with other people

  • Experiencing compassion and empathy for others

  • Experiencing feelings of interconnectedness

  • Feelings of awe and wonder

  • Seeking happiness beyond material possessions or other external rewards

  • Seeking meaning and purpose

  • Wanting to make the world a better place

Aspect Number Two (2): Emotional Wholesomeness.

Medical News Today asserts that "Emotional wellness -- i.e., wholesomeness when integrated with the other seven dimensions, or well-being refers to the awareness and understanding a person has about their emotions and how well they are able to manage through different life events.

Emotional well-being, or emotional health or wellness, refers to how well people are able to accept and manage their emotions and cope with challenges throughout life.

Emotional well-being can affect how well someone can function day to day or how they are able to deal with change or uncertainty".

(Cited Source: https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/emotional-wellbeing; February 10, 2023).

Aspect Number Three (3): Intellectual Wholesomeness.

Soo Kim (2022) writes that "simply put, intellectual wellness is 'the wellness of the mind,' -- i.e., citing Michael Ebinger, the director of Washington State University (WSU) Spokane's University Center for Innovation who spoke about intellectual wellness for TEDx Talks, told Newsweek. He continues with citing Randy McCoy, vice president of product and curriculum for The Little Gym, an enrichment and physical development center for children in Arizona, told Newsweek: "Intellectual wellness is much about the desire and ability to expand one's knowledge and skills through continued learning, productive curiosity, creativity thinking and exploration.""

Aspect Number Four (4): Social Wholesomeness.

The editor(s) of the LifeCares Website state that social wholeness -- i.e., social wholesome once integrated with the other seven elements, is demonstrated via "our ability to care for others while we take good care of ourselves is defined as social wellness. Relationships we form with those around us can greatly impact the quality of our lives. Our ability to make meaningful connections with others – as a family, as a society, and as a community is referred to as social wellness."

A few apparent examples entail:

  • Being kind to yourself

  • Being able to communicate effectively

Aspect Number Five (5): Physical Wholesomeness.
Next, as it pertains to an officially recognized definition of physical wholeness, it is deemed as too complex and multifarious so as to pinpoint to a specific state of ideological state of being.
Therefore, the facilitation of the notion of physical wholeness is to be employed with a Cambridge Medical Dictionary application. It follows:

1

a(1)

: free of wound or injury : UNHURT

(2)

: recovered from a wound or injury : RESTORED

(3): being healed

whole of an ancient evil, I sleep sound—A. E. Housman

b

c

: physically sound and healthy : free of disease or deformity

d

2

a whole egg

3

a: constituting the total sum or undiminished entirety : ENTIRE

b: each or all of the

took part in the whole series of athletic events

4

a: constituting an undivided unit : UNBROKEN, UNCUT

a whole roast suckling pig

b: directed to one end : CONCENTRATED

your whole attention

(Cited Source: https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wholeness; 2023).

Aspect Number Six (6): Vocational Wholesomeness.

The Student Affairs Department at Northwestern University asserts that "Vocational wellness is defined as gaining personal satisfaction and enrichment from one’s work, whether that be academic work while in college or a job after graduation."

Furthermore, the same department identifies what is to be referred to as the "Eight Goals for one's Vocational Wellness".

These include:

Aspect Number Seven (7): Economic Wholesomeness.

Last, yet not at all the least, as it pertains unto this seventh of eight dimensions of wellness-wholesomeness, it is deemed as important to present this notion from the standpoint of having economic maturity. In other words, to have arrived at a state of abundance, and prosperity. In a simple laymen's description, when any individual or organization, etcetera has arrived at this state, there is no liability, no deficit, only an abundance of revenue footnoted with fiscal or financial profitability and then some.

A mature economy is one that has reached an advanced stage of development, categorized by slowing gross domestic product (GDP) growth, decreased spending on infrastructure, and a relative increase in consumer spending. Blessing (2022) divulges that "Maturity is the date on which the life of a transaction or financial instrument ends, after which it must either be renewed or it will cease to exist. The term is commonly used for deposits, foreign exchange spot trades, forward transactions, interest rate and commodity swaps, options, loans, and fixed income instruments such as bonds."

In essence, and to put it simply, we all ought to understand that every system is comprised of a continuum of cycles. Therefore, once the subject has arrived at an identifiable date of maturity, it then becomes critical to make a decision to progress unto the next level of growth -- i.e., having the term s of the contract renewed, or discontinued and settled as being an acceptable state to remain therein at that definitive moment in time. Or, as applied to human beings, all of us enter into this temporal sphere as infants. We learn to talk, walk, potty even to become familiar with the faces or family members even significant others, if you please. After that stage has been mastered, the individual then becomes an adolescent. He or she learns to  recite basic numbers and alphabets.

This stage is highlighted by entering some form of schooling thereof. Social skills are set into motion with the participants learning to communicate with others, demonstrate respect for others particularly adult-authority figures. Of course, the succeeding stages include teenage year, early adulthood, mid-adulthood, etcetera.

In brief, becoming whole -- i.e., wholesome only after integrating the seven other dimensions, can be translated into a simple notion of one having mastered to fundamentals applicable to a specific level that one currently finds himself/herself. In the process of graduating from one stage unto the next, it is understood that the attitudes, dispositions, and the behavior attributes thereof also involves a significant shifting that clearly indicates that the same individual has indeed and in fact translated from a lower-level into the next level of maturity.
